During the fix the Virus Alert went away and has not returned since reboot.  I did a quick check in IE going to AOL login still unable to access Username and Password feilds.  Remember I did not do the reset of IE because the Virus Alert returned.

OK whilst I run a few tests on my system could you monitor the alert, it should not (fingers crossed ) re-appear now

No worries... would you like for me to do the IE reset you instructed before?

No as I believe we also need to register some dll's

But there is a tool that will save you entering all the file names

Download Windows All In One Repair from Tweaking.com to your desktop
Install the programme

Reboot to safe mode with networking
Run Windows All In One
Select Step 2
Select open Pre-repairs scan then click scan
Let that complete
Save the results to a text file on your desktop



Next select Step 5 and back up the registry



Open the Repairs tab



Select the following repair numbers :

7

Set the system to reboot on completion
The press Start Repairs



Then try AOL

Sorry took so long to get back to this but everyone was out of town for the weekend. 

 

Not sure if I ran the repair as needed, there were many "numbers" ticked for repair but I unticked all but number 7 before running the repair.  Going to AOL login page in IE has the same problem; cannot access Username or Password feilds.

 

Virus Alert has not returned and system seems to be runnning much better.

This is a recurring AOL problem and has been going on for years

Lets try compatibility view next

Go to the AOL site where you are having the problem
On the IE menu bar select tools > compatibility view settings
Then add the current site to the list

Thats seems to have done the trick... I also notice there are other sights he has setup via shortcuts that have the same issue.  Is there a way to set compatibility mode to always be on in IE?  You might can tell I don't use IE and have very little deailed understanding of it...lol

Unfortunately there is no way with IE11 to set it permanently to compatibility mode. It must be done on a site by site basis

Just one more reason why I stay away from IE...lol   At this point everything is looking very good.  I'd say it's time to clean things up and call it done and once again thank you for all your help.  I'll be standing you a drink or two in the not so distant furture and I'm sure my friend will as well.

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so..The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Remove Combofix

Click Start then Run.
On Windows7 or Vista you may use Start Search field if Run is not available.
In the box copy/paste the following command:

ComboFix /Uninstall

Note that there is a space between " ComboFix " and " /Uninstall " .

Then click OK (or press Enter ).
Wait for the uninstall process to complete.

Remove tools

Download and run Delfix
Select the options as shown

I would recommend that you completely uninstall Java unless you need it to run an important software.
In that instance I would recommend that you disable Java in your browsers until you need it for that software and then enable it. (See How to diasble Java in your web browser and How to unplug Java from the browser)

If you do need to keep Java then download JavaRa
Run the programme and select Remove Java Runtime. Uninstall all versions of Java present
Once done then run it again and select Update Java runtime > Download and install Latest version



Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:

Malwarebytes.

Update and run weekly to keep your system clean

Unchecky

Click on the link above to be taken to Unchecky.com
click the very large Download button.
click Save
Click Open folder
Right click on the Unchecky_setup and choose to Run as Administrator
Once open click the Install button.
Then click on Finish
Unchecky is now installed and will help you keep unwanted check boxes unchecked, this is a fire and forget programme

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.
