Hello Everyone and good day J

 

i have a very stange problem that  Suddenly started with my PC

 

i have a  Three Different  external hard drive 

and all the 3 start to beep and click when I plug to my  usb

even when I plug only one of them … its start to click and my pc not recognized him

 

 it is  very stange Because all this years its work great

 

but If I take the 3 external hard drives to my friends computers its working fine and not clicking and beeping 

or if i take to another  laptop  its  working !

 

I'm really desperate and do not know what to do ..

 

My  pc  is with

Os windows 7 x64 pro sp1

Cpu is intel core  2 4300 1.80ghz

Memory is 4 gb

motherboard ASUS P5LD2 SE

NVIDIA Quadro FX 1500 256MB

Clicking and beeping are usually due to hard drive being bad or going bad. Sure the beeping not coming from the PC ? Are you plugging them in all at once and is this always way you did it ? Try one at a time, try different ports..How many other USB devices are plugged into this PC ?

 

Some cases not enough power a power supply issue, why I am asking if you plug all at once and having any other USB devices plugged in also at the same time.

 

There are many diagnostics tools there, plus the external drives manufacturer provides to check the drive. What brand drives ?

Try a flash drive in same USB ports to see if it recognizes it.

seeing how they work fine on other pc's try disabling and then enabling the usb controller and see if that solves your problems.

I want to say that

I check  and try to  Disable and re-enable the USB controller

And also  want to say that the Clicking and beeping  is not from the pc Is from the external hard drive

 

My external hard drives is 

Samsung  G2 portable – 500gb – when I plug to another computer  its working great

But in my pc Is still click and beep

 

The other external hard drive that click  when plug to my computer Is 

western digital 500GB passport  And of course if I try to plug another pc its workin fine

 

I not plugging them in all at once

I try to plug this external hard drive  one at a time

I  try different ports

I have keyboard and mouse that plug with usb And of course I try to replace and connect the external hard drive in that  ports but its still same problem

But if  I connect  usb 32gb  stick   or usb 64gb stick  and also usb 8gb stick  they working great and open in my computer

I try to clean with brush the usb ports  In back and front

And I try also go to the  power settings and change the hdd turn off

Control Panel -> Power Options -> Advanced Power settings -> go through and disable the "turn off HDD's after X minutes".

 

But it still not work L  if you have more Ideas and suggestions and solutions I'd appreciate it

Check if they show up in Device Manager, under Disk Drives. If other items work on same ports, do not feel it is a driver or port issue.Can try uninstalling the USB root hubs and hubs in the Device Manager under USB Serial Bus Controllers. Then reboot the PC this will redetect and reinstall them again. Not sure this will help, but won't hurt to try.

 

Also thinking before about not enough power or a power issue. 

 

WD Passport has no power connection to an outlet i know, as i have same type, but some can be USB 3.0.

Samsung is USB 2.0. no powered connection.

yep i agree it's looking more like a power issue, seeing how he already uninstalled the usb controllers and reinstalled them and that didn't solve the problem.

 

maybe something on the usb power circuit has blown and why it can no longer supply the correct volts/amps to power the drives.

 

a work around may be to buy an active hub which will draw the power from a wall socket, something like this :- http://www.amazon.co...3DV3R16JE6PPYCF

Let's see when OP posts back. Even Power supply itself with amount of hardware OP might have is idea i meant. As this is something we do not know yet.

 

OP said they disabled and renabled not uninstalled.

there are lots of things we don't know,

we do know the drives work perfectly on other laptops, pc's.

he has not complained of any problems with his pc, so why do you suspect a power supply issue?

i'd certainly suspect a usb port /motherboard power issue way before i'd think it was a psu issue.

if the power draw was over extending the psu when the drives were plugged in or if there was a problem with it then i'd expect bsod's, freezes or even complete shut downs and not just a bleebing external hard drive

not saying your wrong, because anything is possible when dealing with pc's but seems unlikely to me.

 

could check the usb power but can't remember if it bears any resemblance/measured to what is actually available at the port itself or if that is just what some file says it should be.

 

 

in my opinion the powered usb hub is going to be the best way to check if it is a usb power problem without actually having to own a muti meter or have a spliced cable to easily measure/test both voltage and current draw, as well as providing a work around solution if it is.

Just a guess about power, not knowing how many devices are plugged in ports, how many other HDD and PCI cards.

To the reference the Microsoft link article you sent shows to uninstall the USB hubs, not disable them as there is a difference and this is what i mentioned before, uninstall them, reboot PC will redect and reinstall. Other issues as follows, incorrect USB drivers installed on the computer,a malfunction in the host controller hardware has occurred, other attached devices or hubs may have created the conflict.
Others also can be Host controller hardware malfunction, but tells us that other USB Devices work fine, flash drive, etc......

Told OP to check the Disk Management if drives show there, be one of the best places to look first.

As we both say ,we do not know the configurations of this system. Any error messages, yellow exclamation points in Device manager. Obvious something has changed since last time these drives worked on this system. Anything recently added, any system restore points.

 

 

Check Event Viewer also.http://windows.micro...r#1TC=windows-7      In Event Viewer open Custom views folder check Administrator events.

hi guys the problem was solved ,

 

I took out the power supply from PC , I opened it and cleaned it with air spray, Of course, i also cleaned the  fan

 

after that i take the air spray  And sprayed the USB connections on my pc

 

and Finally, I put everything in place

 

and now its working great !!!

Hmmmm....we saying the USB connections were dirty or Power supply so full of dust possibly not working correctly. YW
