Hi, I have a file on my Win7 pro 64bit pc that I cant shake. Ive tried

  • rename it
  • removing all other files from folder then try to delete folder
  • take ownership
  • reboot of course
  • wont let me change extension
  • scanned the folder with every scanner I can think of
  • running a cmd, killing explorer and try to delete it in a cmd prompt
  • using unlocker
  • using file assassin

The file is the highlighted .png file

Hi nordvark :)

Did you try the following? Open the command prompt with Admin Rights (right-click on it and select Run as Administrator, and enter the following command:

del $FILENAME /f /q /s

Let me know if it works or not.

Hi,

Did you run chkdsk on the C drive?

Hi Guys and thanks for the response, dont know what went wrong but i wrote a reply to my post yesterday saying the file was gone???

After playing with removing sharing and permission from the folder it was in I decided to get serious with it. Booted the pc with a live linux usb and nuked the [bleep] out of it. Dont know how or why, but its gone.

Thank you both for the prompt response.

No problem nordvark. The next time you encounter this issue, you can try the command I gave, or simply do a chkdsk /r like Sleepy recommended. Sometimes the folder is indeed gone, but a chkdsk will reallocate it's position and make it dissapear.
