I have a toshiba satellite pro with a partitioned 60Gb hard drive (two 30GB partitions) with windows xp installed on the first ©. I have a set of comprihensive reinstall disks that came with the computer but i dont know how to use them on the first windows partition leaving my backed up data on the second (D) free.

any help would be much appriciated sam

well if its like a few cd's with something like system restore and not just a xp cd then chances are it will restore everything like when you bought it automaticly. dono if Toshiba does it but i know compaq and emachines you have no control what or where to install the os or the programs :-(

Thanks for that,
i kinda got that idea when i put the disks in and it didnt give me any options regarding the drives, although it is a bit weird because the same disks did install the partition in the first place.
