Hi all, I have an aspire laptop with windows 7, recently it has been running so slow I have to turn it off and not bother to use it. I assumed it was full up with malware so I posted a topic in the malware removal section, run the frst scanner and posted the logs. but it seems that I have no malware issues and was advised to post a topic here to ask you guys.

any information you may need to make a diagnosis I will get for you asap

Hello hoopdub2,

Overheating, resource hungry AV software and an untidy HDD (including bloatware) are a couple of things that cause such performance issues.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here,  this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

Hello hoopdub2,

Thanks for the url  :thumbsup:

The temps look ok so are less likely to be responsible for the poor performance, this leaves McAfee hogging resources and an untidy HDD, is McAfee a paid for product.

You have the following scheduled updates which are totally unnecessary, they will slow down your computer and so should be disabled/deleted;

Post back with an update once the above has been done and we can move on.

NB: Consider upgrading your Ram in the future as it is still the best value for money performance improvement that you can make.

I have uninstalled mcafee and also did this

start - control panel - administrative tools - task scheduler - task scheduler library - highlighted the ones you have listed - click end button for each one.

Try a clean boot to see if you are able to find anything that is affecting the performance, see below;

Click on Start then type msconfig in the search field and press Enter.
Click on the Startup tab (for Windows 8, the Startup tab has a link to open Task Manager/Startup tab. Use that.) make a note of what is currently starting then click the Disable Allbutton.
Reboot and see if it runs better.
If yes then use msconfig to enable several items at a time till you find the culprit.

If no, start msconfig and click on the Services tab.

Check the Hide All Microsoft Services box, record what is currently starting then click the Disable All button.
Again, do a regular boot, see if it runs normal.
If yes then use msconfig to enable services until you find the culprit.

Post back with an update for us.

NB: Would you consider upgrading the Ram.

Useless post. Who would know a hardware engineer? Plus the poster said he already threw the computer away and bought a new one.
