Just curious, why turn off system restore?

I usually ask users to do this because so much junk and viruses can hide themselves in there. Sometimes these can't be detected, so I want to make sure users don't run into problems if they use a restore point that's infected without their knowledge.

I guess you may leave it on if you wish. But I say you may turn it off and then back on again to create new restore points.

If its not trouble, ive recently had the userint32.exe virus, if you are familiar with it, and i want to make sure it is completly off. Suggestions?

Can you find that userint32.exe in your c:\windows\ folder?

If it comes back, your antivirus program should be able to detect it. Or one of these scans should detect it. Panda doesn't detect it. userinit32.exe usually doesn't give the user too much trouble to remove. So if you removed it, you should be ok. I say disable system restore and then enable to ensure that it's not hidden there - even though Panda doesn't detect it in the restore points.

Go to your Add/Remove panel and see if you can find this one and uninstall it:

It's very minor, but if you want to remove it still, do this:

Right click on this link http://www.greyknigh...spy/RegSrch.vbs and choose 'Save As'. Save it somewhere. Now run that program and do a search for these files (if more than one, make sure to search and save them separately):

Save the file/files and post the results in the forum.

nope.. I think everything is fine, could you just tell me some free really good anti-virus programs because my time is almost up for Norton.

Sure, we can help you with that request also.

As most users know me, I'm not a big Norton fan. So I usually ask users to use a free antivirus called Grisoft AVG. Does a great job and uses less resources than Norton.

If you don't have a firewall program, you might want to take a look at ZoneAlarm. It's also free for personal use. Look for the free download link. They try to hide it.
