I recently had a big fight with a guy I knew over the internet and we have been really tight for a long time and he had my phone number after a few weeks then we started to argue with eachother and he ended up sending threats to me over text messages and I had no clue what to do, not going to mention anything about the threats he mentioned but he mentioned something specific that made me really worried, he told me that he could easily hack my phone and do alot of bad things on it, example, turn my camera on at anytime, control my phone and download anything he want. Now to the question do I have to be worried that he hacked it? This is a guy I met online and he do not have access to my wifi or anything else (what i know of) so it is possible that he could hack my phone just by knowing my number? And how do I protect myself from this problem?

I'm not really an expert about malware on android phones, but I would think that he needs either physical access to your phone, or he would need to send you some kind of trojan, which when opened on your phone, would give him have the kind of access he speaks of.

I don't believe that he can hack your phone just by knowing your number, but he could send you a malicious attachment via an email or text.

 

I have both Avast! Mobile Security & Anti-Virus combined with MalwareBytes Anti-Malware on my S3.  They are easily found at Google Play.  Both are free.

Search using the text that I have bolded at Google Play. Install and let each one do a scan of your phone.

That should tell you if your phone has any kind of malware already on it.  They also will protect you in the future from a malicious attachment sent via email or text.

Don't open any attachments coming from this individual, obviously, and you might want to consider just blocking him from sending you texts, I think you can do that directly from the phone, link here, it depends on your carrier.

Thank you for your reply Crowbar! I did not send me any strange links or applications that I downloaded to my phone, I try to keep it as clean as possible to avoid threats like this and hopefully I wont have any viruses on my phone. I will download both of the applications to my phone and I will process a scan and reply to this thread if I found any viruses / threats.

I scanned my phone with Avast! and MalwareBytes and 0 threats were found, I think I can stop thinking about his threats now if no viruses or malwares were found. Thanks again for all the help.
