Ahoy! (I hope it's the right board. Was balancing between this and the OS boards)

So, if anyone remembers me may remember my issues with my old PC. Well, they're irrelevant now as I got tired of all the bottlenecks and built myself a new one, whose specifications I shall provide as a speccy/DxDiag report. But that's digressing.

The topic at hand is that this PC ran like charm, and still does since I got it. However, there was a blackout about a week ago, after which when i turned my PC on, the fans whirred like crazy, forcing me to shut it off. It booted afterwards no hicky though. However, upon next start up my monitor received no video signals and the usual double beep of startup didn't make its presence known. At first, I got my PC to boot through turning it off and on again, but soon learned that pressing the reset button, which to my knowledge doesn't reset the power, merely the software, also fixes it after a few tries. Tried googling my way through it, but couldn't really dedicate time to it as I had a rather hectic week.

The turning point of me posting here has happened just a few seconds ago! To cut it short - I turn on my PC, usual refuses to boot I press the reset button and... Instead of seeing windows load in its swift manner, I am brought to UEFI setup. I tried resetting to defaults - nope. I tried discarding changes - nope. I looked around - nothing I could spot (voltages, everything reported right). I tried resetting with the button - nope, I tried powering it off/on - nope.

The fix was to power off the PSU, wait a few minutes and reboot it. It loaded no problemo. Interesting to note is the fact that Windows ran an update after the successful boot, but I don't remember installing an update when turning it off. Do note not remembering is highly anecdotal, as I tend to leave my PC to its own devices after hitting "shut down".

Here are the specifications as form of Speccy/DxDiag. I am not including a WhoCrashed report, as the last crashdump is from 2014 November.

Speccy log removed for security as it contained the product code for Windows.

Hi, my first suspect here considering all this happened after a power failure is the hard drive has been damaged, especially considering it is reluctant to get going each time you boot up.

I would be recommending a full backup of all your data as soon as possible, then look at checking the hard drive.

If you already know how to run a disk check in Windows 8.1 that would be the first thing to try.

If you don't know how, and to save me a lot of typing, have a read of this.

Being a Western Digital drive they also have their own means of running a check, read about it here :-

To provide a Speccy report that does not include product key information, download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for Nev, details here,
