Uninstalling Yahoo Messenger from XP

Mmmm...where to start. I have a friend who does not want his computer programmer wife to even know or find out that he has installed yahoo messenger, used IM, and web cam.
Can he safely install it, then when done, totally eliminate all traces of it ever being installed, and UNinstalled (based on description above??)
If so, how should he go about it?
He has XP pro, comcast cable hook up, linksys for wireless use on his laptop.
