Ok, let's deal with Epolvy next.

Please download Advanced Process Termination from:
http://www.diamondcs...wnloads/apt.zip
Unzip it to the desktop.

Double-click on My Computer and navigate to C:\WINDOWS\System32. Locate the file mvzays.exe. Don't delete it yet, just leave the System32-folder open so you can see the bad file.

Also locate:

egtrxef.exe
zftapwm.exe

Leave them alone for now.

Now run APT.exe. Locate the process mvzays.exe. Select this process and click Kill 3.

Also kill:

egtrxef.exe
zftapwm.exe

Then immediately return to the My Computer window to your System32 folder. Delete [mvzays.exe.

Delete these as well:

egtrxef.exe
zftapwm.exe

Then run HijackThis, click Scan, and check:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [mnmlast] c:\windows\system32\mvzays.exe r
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [gpqiqj] c:\windows\system32\egtrxef.exe r
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [jevwnlb] c:\windows\system32\zftapwm.exe r

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Next, please run this free online virus scan: Panda Active Scan Save the log it generates to post in your next reply.

Reboot and post a new HijackThis log as well as the Active Scan results.

Ok... more of the same... could not locate any of the exe files, either by search or by looking in the windows folder as directed. HJT did find them and I used the fix on them. As for Panda scan, it would not work on IE or Opera. Also, APT didn't find them. Anyway, here is the new HJT log.

Well, at least this case is consistent :tazz:. Those files have to be there, but let's come back to them.

Please run Notepad and copy the following text into a new file:

@ECHO OFF
dir c:\windows\tasks\##.job /a h > files.txt
notepad files.txt

Save the file as C:\remove.bat and make sure the "Save as type" field says "All files". Double-click to run it and a new Notepad document will open named files.txt. Please save that text to include in your next reply.

[*]AppInit_DLLs Fix:
  • Download AppInit_DLLs Fix.
  • Unzip the contents of appinitfix.zip to a convenient location.
  • Double-click on appinitfix.reg.
  • When it asks you to merge the information to the registry click "Yes".

You have ad-aware's ad-watch running on your machine and that is good.
But prior to doing the fix below with hijackthis it needs to be turned off.
Please do the following.

Open AdAware Se.
Go to AdWatch User Interface.
Go to Tools and Preferences.
At the bottom of the screen you can see two checkable items called Active and Automatic.
Active: This will turn Ad-Watch On\Off without closing it
Automatic: Suspicious activity will be blocked automatically
Uncheck those boxes.

Remember when we have completed cleaning your machine to turn them back on.

Please also temporarily disable Spyware Doctor and Spyblocker.
  • Download DSRFIX from HERE onto your Desktop.
    • Unzip and EXTRACT the files to your Desktop.
    • The program creates and names the new folder to house the files.
    • DO NOT RUN IT YET
  • Download Cleanup from Here (Alternate site if the above is not working Go Here)
    • A window will open and choose SAVE, then DESKTOP as the destination.
    • On your Desktop, click on Cleanup40.exe icon.
    • Then, click RUN and place a checkmark beside "I Agree"
    • Then click NEXT followed by START and OK.
    • A window will appear with many choices, keep all the defaults as set when the Slide Bar to the left is set to Standard Quality.
    • Click OK
    • DO NOT RUN IT YET
  • CLOSE INTERNET EXPLORER, if it is open
  • Open the folder dsrfix
    • Double click on the dsrfix batch file( the one with the little gear in it )
    • Once dsrfix has completed it will close on its own
  • Please restart HJT, put a checkmark next to the following items, and with all windows closed except for HJT, click “Fix Checked” and EXIT the program.

Good news... biopsy(sp?) came up negative... but still scheduled for major surgery... not really allowed to be up right now, but thought to share... will do the fix as soon as the doctor gives me permission to sit up long enough for it.

Biopsy is frightening, it's good to hear you're at home :tazz: That files.txt showed me nothing, let's try a startup list (when you have time, don't rush anything, I'm not going anywhere)

Launch HijackThis and click Config >> Misc Tools. Next to the 'Generate Startuplist Log' button, place a check in the 'List empty sections (complete)' box. Then click the 'Generate Startuplist Log' button. Answer 'Yes' at the prompt and a text file will open. Please post the contents of that log here.

Well, we've taken long enough that Lavasoft has released a fix for the worst part of your infection, and it doesn't require Safe Mode. I do hope you're feeling better :tazz:

BEFORE BEGINNING, Please read completely through the instructions below and download the files from the links provided. You may want to save or print out these instructions for easier reference.

First, download Lavasoft's Ad-Aware and the VX2 Cleaner Plug-in. Install Ad-Aware using the default options, then install vx2cleaner_inst.exe, taking all the defaults there as well.

Run Ad-Aware, update to the latest definitions, then click on Add-ons in the lefthand column. Select VX2 Cleaner V2.0 and click Run Tool. Click "OK", then, if something is found, click "Clean" as in the directions given. Click "Close", and exit Ad-Aware.

Reboot your PC and run Ad-Aware again. This time, click on the Start button in Ad-Aware, select "Perform smart system scan" and click Next. Once the scan finishes, click "Next" again. Select all objects found (right click anywhere in the list of found objects and click "Select All Objects"). Click "Next" one more time, then "OK" to confirm the removal.

You will be prompted to set Ad-Aware to run on reboot, click "OK". Exit Ad-Aware and restart your PC once again.

When Ad-Aware starts up, click on "Start", then "Next". Follow the steps above if anything is found, or click "Finish", then exit Ad-Aware.

For further cleanup, please run Ewido again.
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  • When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  • From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
  • After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
  • Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run.
  • If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. We have been finding some cases of false positives with the new version of Ewido, so we need to step through the fixes one-by-one. If Ewido finds something that you KNOW is legitimate (for example, parts of AVG Antivirus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk" have been flagged), select "none" as the action. DO NOT check "Perform action with all infections". If you are unsure of an entry, select "none" for the time being. I'll see that in the log you will post later and let you know if ewido needs to be run again.
  • When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again.
Please finish up by rebooting your system once more, and posting a new HijackThis log and the log from the Ewido scan.

Great news from the surgeon :tazz: Yes, the VX2 plugin can simply be downloaded and installed, then run Ad-aware according the previous post.

Also, FYI.... whenever I reboot the computer, I get a message telling me that the MSN messenger add-on is not properly installed... it gives the options of picking yes, no or X-ing the window... any of these options brings up a web browser to the page to download the junk.... any ideas here?
