OK, so I downloaded SP2 and it's running all good. Still taking my computer ages to log on though, and I keep getting this pop up whilst logging on saying:
LIMITED VIRTUAL MEMORY

Your system has no paging file, or the paging file is too small

It then gives me instructions on how to fix this and I've followed them and put the paging files up to maximum but I still get the pop up. STRANGE!

Apart from that my system's running pretty good, I have done both the virus + trojan scans which you told me to do and they came up clean. So what shall I do next?

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

Reboot in safe mode (by tapping F8 at startup and select safe mode from the menu).
Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold (if found):

C:\WINDOWS\MXOALDR.EXE

C:\WINDOWS\System32\iuerrh.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\videosd32.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\videosd32.exe

C:\Program Files\Winad Client <<this folder

Reboot your PC.

Please Download LSPFix from http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm and Run the Program. Disconnect from the Internet and close all Internet Explorer Windows. Check the "I know what I'm doing" Button and remove all traces of WebHancer Reboot.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic, and let us know how your system's working. <_<

Right. I've done as instructed. The only file I couldn't locate which you listed for me to check in Hijack This was:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = 127.0.0.1

everything else went smoothly.

My system still took a lot longer than usual to log on and I still got a pop up about my Virtual Memory being low. My friend suggest I should get some more RAM.

ANyway, here's my latest log:

Wonderful. Just a couple more:

We still have that 2.tmp in your temp folder.

Please delete your temporary files. Double Click My Computer (WinXP: Navigate to Start --->My Computer)
You will see an icon representing your harddrive (most likely C: Drive) Right Click on the hard drive icon and click Properties at the
bottom of the fly out window. One the very first tab (General) you will see a button labeled "Disk Cleanup"...click that button.
Make sure the following are checked:
Downloaded Program Files
Temporary Internet Files and
Recycle Bin

Click OK and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.

If you can't remove the following one:

C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\2.tmp.exe

Click Here to download TheKillbox. Extract TheKillBox.exe from the zip file and double click it to open it up. In the 'Enter Full Path and Filename to Delete' box, copy and paste these entries one by one, clicking 'Find and Kill This File' after each one:

C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\2.tmp.exe

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [[Ephemeral 2.5] by TreeHugger, ]C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\2.tmp.exe

Reboot your PC.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic, and let us know how your system's working. <_<

At the taskbar, click Start|Run. Type Regedit and press Return. The registry editor opens.
Before you edit the registry, you should make a backup. On the 'Registry' menu, click 'Export Registry File'. In the 'Export range' panel, click 'All', then save your registry as Backup.
Locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE entry:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\
[Ephemeral 2.4] by TreeHugger, = C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\2.tmp.exe
and delete it if it exists.
Close the registry editor.

Right. I did as advised by 'Admin' and then the file Yarnouth told me to 'fix' wasn't there so I guess you guys covered each other. Done as advised, but still slow on log in and still got the Virtual Memory Low pop up whilst logging on. My friend says my additions to my system [i.e Firewire PCI, USB 2 PCI, and my external hard-drive] may have outdone my RAM capabilities. The 'virtual memory' problems started after I'd installed Norton Firwall + anti-virus but this was in the middle of my viral problems. Would you think new RAM would sort out the slow log on?

What size do you have your paging file set as? I would move that paging file onto the other HD, that will help with performance since your hd can only do one thing at a time. It won't have to search through memory and access other places anymore, the other hd will access the mem and your primary disk will only have do to normal stuff. Don't move it yet, cuz I will need to find out how to tell windows where it is.

It's done gents! I fiddled with my virtual memory settings and all of a sudden everything's back to normal. i think I'll still buy some new RAM [say a 512 module] because if I'm doing video editing it'll help out right?! besides, I won't be paying! mwahaha! Thanks a lot for all of your help, you're all my heroes, what would I do without you? you're 10times more helpful than any system support call center and you're free. I can't thank you enough. If I need any help in the future, I know who to call. THANKS A MILLION! XXXXXXXXXX
