Hello everyone!

 

Just found this great and helpful forum today and I would like to start with a little help request from you.

 

My problem is the following:

 

I have a brand new DELL Optiplex 3020 PC with a brand nVidia GeForce 740 VGA, I have a BenQ and an ASUS monitor both have only VGA connections.

 

In my previous config I managed to connect the two monitors by connecting one to my external video card and connecting one to my integrated video card but since this DELL model is not supporting this I had to buy an external video card with multiple connections.

 

The card has a VGA, a DVI and a HDMI connection. The ASUS is my primary monitor so I connected it to the VGA port - works flawlessly.

I bought a VGA-DVI adapter to connect my other monitor (BenQ) into the DVI port and some strange thins happened.

First when I connected it the PC recognized it but the screen was completely black however my PC showed that I have 2 monitors connected. I can move the cursor and the icons to the extended desktop just I didn't see anything on the monitor, it said no signal.

 

Quickly I tried all the basic steps: restart computer, switch monitors...etc.

 

Results:

If I connect the BenQ to the VGA port - it works.

If I connect the ASUS with the DVI-VGA adapter - it's not working.

After restart - it doesn't matter which monitor I'm connecting with the adapter now it didn't work at all, my PC won't recognize it.

 

I tried searching for some kind of option in the nVidia control center but found nothing. Tried the forced detection there but nothing.

 

I'm using Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, Windows Updates installed, newest VGA drivers installed (currently 353.06).

 

Any suggestions?

To change display settings

1. Open Display Settings by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, clicking Personalization, and then clicking Display Settings.

2. To designate the primary display, on the Monitor tab, click the icon that corresponds to the monitor that you want to designate as the primary display, and then select the This is my main monitor check box.

3. Select the screen resolution and color quality for each monitor that you're using

Thank you for your quick reply.

 

The problem is if the monitor is connected the standby LED is orange and the monitor says no signal.

If I disconnect the monitor the standby LED switches to green and says that no cable connected.

 

Also when I connect it my ASUS monitor becames the secondary monitor and BenQ switches itself to primary, now the only problem with this is that wherever I click the windows appears on the primary monitor on which I can't see anything.

 

This morning I checked my BIOS settings, I have an option that says "Multi display enabled" I have a little tick on that box so it's enabled.

Also I have an other option where I can determine the primary display adapter and there I set the nVidia HD Graphics to primary.

 

Still not working.

 

Finally I managed to solve it!

 

This could come in handy to every DELL Optiplex 3020 users.

 

1. First you have to update the integrated Intel HD Graphics adapter via DELL Optiplex 3020 Support site or you can download it separately.

2. After you installed the update, restart your computer to finalize the installation.

3. The next step is you have to update your BIOS which is designed especially for dual monitor problems. You can download the update here. (After the update is finished your computer is going to restart itself)

4. Now you have an updated integrated card driver, updated BIOS so you only have to connect your monitor to the onboard VGA port.

 

Also please note that you must enable Multi display in the BIOS and also I set my external video card as primary before all this. Not sure if it affects this solution or not.

 

After the above mentioned steps everything works flawlessly.
