I wanted to check the status of a drive. I installed it in an external enclosure but it was not seen.  I went to BIOS and I got the message that the external drive was not recognized because the computer must be set to AHCI + second choice?,     I set it to AHCI but then the computer would not boot.  My three choices in BIOS were AHCI, ATA (computer original setting) and legacy.   What do I need to use this drive,  external or otherwise.     I don't know if the drive in question has been formatted but  since the computer doesn't see it,  I can't determine that.
