Thank you.  Yes, I had gotten the wrong type of adapter.  I have a correct one on its way now. Go to the full post »

Okay, so my AT&T DSL Broadband wifi modem is set up in the bedroom. I have an old desktop eMachine EL1600-1 in the living room I'd like to connect to it. No wifi card in the eMachine and the only ones I could find that are specifically for it are overseas and I didn't want to wait.

I bought a Kinivo Bluetooth USB Adapter/"dongle" & have that installed successfully. In Bluetooth Device Selection, it is now finding my Roku player, but not my wifi modem. It says, "Remote devices must be in Discoverable mode for this computer to find them.  For assistance in making a remote device discoverable, refer to the user guide that came with the device."

I don't really 'have' a user guide that came with my modem (if indeed that's the problem at all -- which it might not be).  Can anybody help me make this work?  AT&T's regular tech support couldn't.

Generally, unless you have the SSID to be hidden, wifi is discoverable, but what it seems you got is bluetooth, not wifi. I doubt that your AT&T DSL modem does bluetooth.
