ABI-Network / Aurora /Nail malware [RESOLVED]

Hello,
First I want to say you GUYS (and gals) ROCK!! I love this forum, it has been very, very helpful. --- I was recently infected over the weekend with ABI-Network aka Aurora aka Nail.exe malware. I have read through quite a few logs about how to clean and delete this infection. I think I am almost finished (key is "almost") cleaning. I just have one problem left. I have deleted the stuff by using HijackThis, using the Services.msc and taking care of SvcProc, Ewido, CleanUp40, Spybot, Ad-Aware, Nailfix, and Norton Antivirus. I have run ALL of these programs Several times. I believe my HijackThis log looks pretty clean (see below).

PROBLEM: When I go to Add or Remove Programs, I still see ABI-Network A Division of Direct Revenue. When I click to remove this I get a pop up window that gives bunch of bull about ABI-Network A Division of Direct Revenue blah blah blah.. which I have seen way too many times now, lol. I have tried deleting this in Safe Mode as well, and I still get the same message. I can't figure out where to go from here. I have spent over 6+ hours working hard from the threads you wonderful people have posted to other who have been infected and the advice you gave them. But I cannot seem to get rid of this last piece of it and it worries me whether it is "truly" gone even though I NO LONGER get the pop up window while browsing, the computer "seems" to be acting normal again, and the HijackThis Log looks clean now.

Hi Madcow,

You still have a few things left on your HJT LOG.

We can definitely help you, but first you need to help us. The first step in this process is to apply Service Pack 1a for Windows XP, or Service Pack 4 if you are running Win2k. Without this update, you're wide open to re-infection, and we're both just wasting our time.
Click here
Apply the update, reboot, and post a fresh Hijack This log.

Hi Madcow,

Firstly, you have already done a good job on your log so far, there is only one entry left

Reboot your pc into Safe Mode, by tapping the F8 key whilst it starts up, select Safe Mode option.

Rescan your PC with HJT and check the following entry:

O16 - DPF: {47CD99DF-8BCF-4B9B-94EF-02E51B2F79DA} - http://www.alwaysupd...ll/aun_0036.exe

Ensure no windows open except HJT and click fix checked.

Next in HJT click on misc tools section, then click on uninstall manager, highlight the offending ABI Network entry then say bye bye and click on delete this entry to the right.

Reboot pc normally, rescan with HJT and post the log back

From your log, I see nothing in the ways of trojans, nor any evil entities attempting to possess your computer, except for Windows but it's too late for that one. :tazz:

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
  • More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera and SlimBrowsers are good as well.
