Hi,
I have followed the steps in the doco and saved a log file of both ewido and hijack this.
I'm still getting the AZE search toolbar and all the other junk from this trojan after rebooting.

If someone could please help me get rid of this trojan it will be greatly appreciated.

"Also, when I reboot after completing all the adware and ewido scans etc, the following message came up...not sure what to make of it??? " RUNDLL error loading c\program~1\newdot~1\newdot~2.dll""?

Sorry about the wait, we have been busy and your thread must of been overlooked.

You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure.

Please save Hijack This in a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs, and remove the following if found:

New.net (newdotnet)
webHancer

Exit Add/Remove Programs.

Next please run HijackThis, click Scan, and check:

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Please reboot into safe mode (continually tap the F8 key while your system is starting, select Safe Mode from the menu).

Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files/folders in bold (if found):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\azesearch4.ocx
C:\Program Files\webHancer
C:\PROGRA~1\NEWDOT~1

Empty your recycle bin, and reboot normally.

Thank you very much for helping me get rid of the AZE trojan. It was quite strange, but the symptoms were not so severe starting a few days before your solution was posted. I was able to change the default internet page to www.gmail.com instead of the "top20 results" trojan page always defaulting. In any event, there were stillHKCU trojan files which needed to be deleted.

Everything seems to be ok now but I have only just re-booted.

You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure.

Please save Hijack This in a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.

Next please run HijackThis, click Scan, and check:

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Please reboot into safe mode (continually tap the F8 key while your system is starting, select Safe Mode from the menu).

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following(if found):

Newdotnet or New.net

Exit Add/Remove Programs.

Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files/folders in bold (if found):

C:\WINDOWS\shginas.dll
C:\Program Files\NewDotNet
C:\WINDOWS\system32\azesearch4.ocx

Empty your recycle bin, and reboot normally.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:

• How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
• How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.

Prevention Programs:

• Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
• Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
• IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
• MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
• Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.

Other necessary Programs:

• AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
• Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
• More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera and SlimBrowsers are good as well.
