Trouble booting PC after power goes out. (Resolved).

Best Answer wayneman50 , 13 July 2015 - 04:41 PM

I ordered one that sends a shutdown signal to the PC. Would you recommend I also get a new hard drive since this one seems so prone to corruption? Go to the full post »

So you think that if this happens again, that if I wait long enough, it will eventually come up? All that time the screen is black is Windows doing recovery? I guess I ought to break down and buy a UPS so I don't go through this.

No way of knowing unless you try it, problem is that it is possible that Windows will eventually become corrupted and therefore be unable to boot.

All that time the screen is black is Windows doing recovery?

Nope, it is putting files back in order, this includes drivers such as for the graphics.

I guess I ought to break down and buy a UPS so I don't go through this.

Without a doubt and asap.

I agree that if you are in an area that does lose power regularly, a UPS device is a good idea.

However, most UPS devices don't provide power for very long, so if you get a mains power drop, I advise using the short time available to shut the computer down correctly till the mains power is restored.

Nev.

Good call on the UPS

I would not recommend that you purchase a new HDD atm.

A few months ago another "geek" turned me on to CCleaner, so I've been using that to check my startup programs. Thanks for everything. It's ok with me to close this issue.

Any further problems since you have been using the UPS.

JAFYI, tech topics are not normally closed here at GTG but are instead marked as having been answered when an issue has been resolved.

So far, so good. I haven't had any power outages since I installed it.That would be the true test.

Thanks.

A clean and stable power source would appear to have resolved the issue then  :)

Please let us know when you are happy that all is well

We just had our first power outage since I installed the battery back up and it worked fine. Thank you. This topic is concluded.
