Am using Firefox as browser. Have tried previously a number of times to update Adobe Flash Player, (Am Windows XP Pro. based) but as soon as click on 'Run' to begin install, it aborts and sends error message message to Microsoft.

Am now locked out from video as old flash player version is out of date and can't load new (xx. x. x. 209 from memory)

Deleted old flash player and Mozilla and reloaded both.Re-attermpted to load new version of Flash Player same result.

Haven't had any Windows problems that I know of. XP running fine. Previously ran Flash Player updates O K.

Should have added this problem is when streaming TV station (e.g. BBC) based video. Can still stream You Tube video.

Any ideas?

Hello Rustywrex :)  ,

1. Restart your computer to get rid of the Flash Player Process that you started when you tried to update.

2. Go to the following adobe link and go to the bottom where it provides a link to do a direct download:
Installation problems | Flash Player | Windows

Hope it helps  ;)

Sorry for barging in here and for the fact that my message yesterday was very short, I was being called away! :-(

The problem I had myself, Dashing Star, is that I was somehow being directed to the wrong update. You have to make sure you get update 18.0.0.209 or higher.

Just in case anybody else has this same problem.....

Chris.

Whatever you read that stated Mozilla no longer supports the Adobe Flash Player is incorrect. Mozilla still supports Flash but currently has all previous versions on a blocklist due to critical vulnerabilities. https://addons.mozil...irefox/blocked/

Mozilla only puts versions of Plugins (and also Extensions that are malware) that are of serious Security (critical) and also stability reasons. Unfortunately just about every Flash player version has been on blocklist since December due to proven exploits in wild in at time current versions.

The current plugin based versions of Flash player for Windows and Mac OSX are not on blocklist however Linux version is due to Adobe not having a update still which is unusual. https://www.adobe.co...tribution3.html

As you can see Adobe has been busy trying to fix exploits in their Flash player in last while. https://helpx.adobe....tml#flashplayer

As for Flash alternatives that may or may not work or partially depending on OS and site used are Unity Web Player, GNU Gnash and Lightspark.

Dashing Star, many thanks. Have commented on my experience with (All) your help. Which is EXCELLENT!

I had vaguely wondered if -- and for what reason -- Mozilla might be the culprit. It was clear -- as the error message came immediately I previously attempted to update -- that Mozilla was saying; clear off; don't want to know. It even vaguely stirred the grey cells it might be something to do with Flash Player.

But it would have taken me eons to get deeper into it all and I gave up the deep nitty gritty of hardware, graphics display list processors and operatting systems (kernals) down to bit level getting on for forty years ago.

When I used to build and troubleshoot systems what then would have occupied a reasonable size building would now be less than the size of your thumbnail. And a lot more transistors besides.

Interesting ikon you use. Angel's wings are real but they are NOT made of feathers; they are pure energy which shiines like wings and radiates from just below the shoulders between the cervical and thoracic vertibrae junction. The larger and brighter the 'wings' the higher the angel. Hope you have a good one looking out for you.

Thanks again.   Rusty.

Channeal / Chris,

You are neither invisible, nor was your information of no use. Quite the contrary. I was just a trifle confused as to who was who answering to my problem. You and 'Dashing Star' both nailed it for me. I am extremely grateful to each of you. And the same comments apply, except those pertaining to angelic ikons. You have saved me a lot of irritation fumbling around trying to find where to look. What is frustrating today is the sheer volume of information. Having an idea generally where the problem lies -- as described to Dashing Star but spending a lot of time wading through technical 'encyclopedia' trying to decide which bit of information is what I need.

You shortened the task by hours for me.

Sincere thanks Rusty.

No worries, Rusty.

Just guessing, but maybe the experts here do not like 'ordinary people' trying to help out. I only butted in here because I had just had the same problem myself. I certainly won't do it again!

The main thing though is that you managed to sort out your problem. :-)

Take care,
Chris.
