Hi, I don't know if the 2 are related or not but the  security updates are accumulating (3 to date) ... funny tho 2 out of 5 did install in the past month, not sure if they were security updates tho. ... I've done multiple scans with MSE, superspyware and malwarebytes ... in regular mode and safe mode ... nothing .. I've tried to install in safe mode .. nothing .. chkdsc/r .. nothing ... scannow .. nothing .. I'm not computer savy but I've read a lot here and that's where I got those ideas for scans .. doing nothing that comes with a warning or too complicated ... computer is taking longer to boot up and connect .. again just putting it out there in case its related ... I need help. Thanks

edit: for error code on updates .. 80070490

Hi Dumbum,

First thing give a try what Microsoft recommends for this updates error:

Step 1: Use System File Checker to repair damaged Windows files
Use the System File Checker tool to repair damaged Windows files. To do this, follow these steps:

  • Open an elevated command prompt.
  • Run the "sfc /scannow" command.
  • Try to install update again.

Step 2: Run the System Update Readiness tool
If the problem continues, use the System Update Readiness tool to fix Windows corruption errors.

Elevated command is the same as Run As Admin.

What was the results in the command window when the sfc /scannow finished running?

Hi .. also .. the update rediness downloads then gets hung up on the install with nothing showing on the install bar .. when I finally close the installer, sometimes after hrs. of waiting, a box will pop up saying that it was installed successfully .. when I look at update history it says it failed ?

Also .. I have tried the updates with the A/V and firewall turned off with no different results.

Have you restarted the computer after executing the above? If not, please restart and try again updating.

If it still not works you could try the Windows Update troubleshooter from Microsoft to automatically troubleshoot the problem.

If those won't work I think you'll need to repair Windows.

Sorry to hear that.

Repairing does not have anything to do with reinstalling. See here more details.

Hi ... that looks pretty complicated for someone of my computer skills .. I'll need to wait for the weekend when someone more confident with computers visits .. I wanted to make sure I've tried everything I could do and for that I thank you ! I can post afterwards and let you know how it went.
