I'm running W7 x86 Home Premium SP1 with IE9.
MS has repeatedly snuck in garbage that compromised my IE9 install and caused other problems.
I do not believe the latest is necessarily the greatest.
I no longer trust MS and no longer automatically install updates indiscriminately.

There doesn't appear to be any real information about what the updates are doing on Technet.

The kb and ms numbers all seem similar and sound like advertising that doesn't have any real information in it.

Does anyone know where I can get definitive information about the kb updates to help me decide what to install?

Is there a list of which updates to avoid and why?

Hello Eles   :welcome: ,

Wouldn't Microsofts technet site be the place to look? I had a quick look here:

Microsoft Security Bulletin

Although its broken down a bit into categories it should show you what you're asking for

Regards  :)

Why are you still using IE9? It's getting a bit old and decrepit :)

IE11 runs on Windows 7 and seems like it would be a better choice.

Just curious.

Thanx to Dashing Star and Ztruker for responding.

I still use IE9 because I much prefer the UI over 10 or 11.

I have been selectively installing updates for a long time.

MS regularly shoves updates at you that have nothing to do with your installation, are only to prep your box for the

next upgrade or have not been fully tested. These kinds of updates have caused me problems in the past.

I once saw a website that listed particular updates to avoid and why.  I have not yet been able to find it again.

That is the kind of 'insider' information I'm looking for.

Ultimately I'll switch to Linux.

I was a mainframe software engineer that spent many years in the IBM world as a troubleshooting expert for

online interactive systems. That work was done primarily in Assembler Language.

I'm now retired and working on getting up to speed on the client / server side.
