Unfortunatley Kaspersky froze out my screen and I cannot now log back in - even in Safe mode. Once I get past the password box I just end up with a blank screen.

Now replying on a different computer

The bube virus infects explorer.exe which is one of the main componants of windows.
I'll confer with our Windows experts to see where we can go next.

Hi again,

Try this

click ctrl/alt/delete. In applications click new task

type the following into the box

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

See if that will allow you to scan.

We need to get explorer.exe disinfected.

If you can get it to work let me know

Hi

Kasperksky only did 18% before freezing.

Could not find just "explorer.exe"

Should i have typed in a fuller path name?

looks like you had Kaspersky set on delete instead of disinfect.

We'll try this next.

using taskmanager go to to C:\Program Files\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal\kav.exe and use the backup/quarantaine-option in kaspersky, select the explorer.exe and choose restore.

Let me know when that is done

I think the best way forward from here is to carry out a repair install.

You will not lose your data or applications, but will require to reinstall service packs and maybe an odd driver

Click this link to get detailed instructions on how to carry out a repair install

Link here

Let me know how you get on.
