Hi, almost a year ago I had trouble with some malware, and got rid of it. I did a system scan, and found some files sfc /scannow couldn't fix. That's always bugged me, but I'm more worried now with the Windows 10 update right around the corner that it will mess up my system (I also haven't updated my system in around a year, either, out of paranoia). Last time, I tried doing the restore health command, but it ended up taking forever and I had to restart it (which was a stupid idea, but I haven't had any noticeable problems.)

 

I did the sfc /scannow command today, and it said there were corrupted files I can't fix, but I can't open the newest log. (It says "access denied").

 

I have the log I did last year (for some reason, that worked).

Sorry everything's all over the place. I just want to know, should I do anything? If I upgrade to windows 10 (or update my system, for that matter) in my PC's current state, will it crash?

As long as you have Windows 8.1 Update 1 (Windows 8.1 S14) KB2919355 which was released in the spring of 2014 then you will get the Windows 10 upgrade.

That should resolve the SFC file corruption problems too.

I'm pretty sure I only have just regular 8, and not 8.1.

 

I have classic shell enabled, is there any way I can check to make sure what I have?

Run winver from a elevated Command Prompt. It should look something like this (I'm on Win 10 now).
