First off appreciate what you guys (and gals) do here. I have been recently having some problems with my Windows XP Professional. It is not letting me defrag or start up IE. I don't use IE (my default browser is Mozilla Firefox) but some sites require it like Windows update. I have run my virus scans (symantec) in reg and safe mode and my spyware as well (spybot and destroy and Giant). Nothing comes up for viruses and or malware.
When I do run or try to run defrag in error for the MMC comes up the .exe file and a txt file. The same basic thing happens when I try to run IE except here it says it is a browser error. Dell told me that I had corrupted files I needed to get rid of and/or replaced. My computers performance has been slow of recent and sometimes freezes, it also seems to randomly effect other programs and different times too. Any help would be most appreciated. The errors that I keep getting are below.
C:\DOCUME~1\Kevin\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERbfa2.dir00\iexplore.exe.mdmp
" "appcompat.txt
" "WER43ad.dir00\mmc.exe.mdmp
" "\appcompat.txt
The first two listed are obviously when the explorer has problems and the second couple is when I try to run defrag.
I really hope I don't have to reformat but any help and/or suggestions again would be most appreciated.
