:tazz: My neighbours XP desktop has been hijacked . The address bar says "about" and the page is liked to pornographic sites. I have with difficulty, because all the icons and taskbar disappear and come back every 3 seconds, ran Adaware se personal, and spybot search and destroy and Microsoft Anti spyware removing some 200+ problems. I then ran Symantec adware.lstbar removal tool but it found nothing. I can't install Hijackthis because of the flashing desktop and it won't run from a DOS window. I have tried system restore from several points but that does not work and safe mode still flashes the same denying enough time to run hijackthis from a CD. I can't find anything on the web about the flashing desktop and I am thinking that I will have to reformat and re install Windows - but I hope not. Can anyone offer advice please
Thank you

Please go to the malware forum in my signature and follow the instructions at the top....Especially the CLICK HERE .

That will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself. If at the end of the process you are still having difficulty--and you may not be-- then post a hijackthis log in THAT forum.

If you are still having problems after getting a clean bill of health from the malware expert, please return to this thread.
