Hello,

Last night I ended up with some vicious virus on my PC. I eneded up with a www-searcher.com toolbar, which started affecting my Chrome and Firefox. Then other programs like Trovi, AnyProtect, SearchProtect, SystemNotifier, SmartWeb, Wajam, and others, like games, toolbars, and search engines, even some scans started downloading on their own. I tried uninstalling most programs but they would just automatially reinstall. I uninstalled Chrome and Firefox, and now have my pc on Safe and Networking Mode running on Internet Explorer, but am typing this up on my tablet. My pc feels out of commission now, running slow and stuff keeps popping up when not in Safe Mode. Sometimes the windows won't let me gte rid of them - I keep clicking the x box but they just keep scanning or just frozen on my screen. The only way to get rid of them is to restart my pc, which I've done tons of times. I've been running security software since last night - CC Cleaner, Malwarebytes, McAfee, Microsft security Essentials, and Wise Care. Nothing helps. Some scans say that there are no threats, where clearly there are. Malwarebytes found some threats, I removed them, but then they reappear. I ran the scans three times since last night maybe, and Malware keeps finding threats and things keep downloading to my pc.

I ran the FRST scans and I am attaching the text files because I am unable to copy them on my tablet. I hope that's OK.

Thank you so kindly for any help that anyone can offer. I hope this isn't too much trouble to fix.

Sincerely,

Izzi.

Hi. My name is Brian, and I would be happy to look into your issue.

- General Instructions -

  • Please read all instructions and fixes thoroughly. Read the ENTIRE post BEFORE performing any steps so you understand all that needs to be done.
  • I would advise printing any instructions for easy reference as some of the fixes may require you to boot in Safe mode. Access to these instructions may not be available in Safe Mode.
  • Any fixes provided by myself are for this log file only and should not be used on any other systems.
  • Do not run any other removal software or perform updates other than the ones I provide, as it will complicate the cleaning process.
  • It's very likely that part of our cleanup will include emptying your recycle bin. If you use your recycle bin as an archive and do not wish this to be emptied, please let me know.
  • It is also likely during our cleaning process that your internet browsing history will be removed. Your favorites will be untouched. If you don't want this to happen you need to let me know before running any steps so I can adjust my fixes accordingly.
  • You have 4 days to reply to each post or the topic will be closed. You will be able to request that the topic be re-opened by sending me a PM (Personal Message) or PM a moderator.
  • Please feel free to ask any questions, especially if you are having problems with my instructions.

- Save ALL Tools to your Desktop-

All tools that I have you download should be placed on the desktop unless otherwise stated. If you are familiar with how to save files to the desktop then you can skip this step.

Since you are continuing with this step then I assume you are unfamiliar with saving files to your desktop. As a result it's easiest if you configure your browser(s) to download any tools to the desktop by default. Please use the appropriate instructions below depending on the browser you are using.
Chrome.JPGGoogle Chrome - Click the "Customize and control Google Chrome" button in the upper right-corner of the browser.Settings.JPG Choose Settings. at the bottom of the screen click the
"Show advanced settings..." link. Scroll down to find the Downloads section and click the Change... button. Select your desktop and click OK.
Firefox.JPGMozilla Firefox - Click the "Open Menu" button in the upper right-corner of the browser. Settings.JPG Choose Options. In the downloads section, click the Browse button, click on the Desktop folder
and the click the "Select Folder" button. Click OK to get out of the Options menu.
IE.jpgInternet Explorer - Click the Tools menu in the upper right-corner of the browser. Tools.JPG Select View downloads. Select the Options link in the lower left of the window. Click Browse and
select the Desktop and then choose the Select Folder button. Click OK to get out of the download options screen and then click Close to get out of the View Downloads screen.
NOTE: IE8 Does not support changing download locations in this manner. You will need to download the tool(s) to the default folder, usually Downloads, then copy them to the desktop.

- Finally Before We Start-

Removing malware is a complicated multiple step process, Please stay with me until I have declared your system clean. I strongly recommend you backup your personal files and folders. Although rare, attempting to remove malware can render your machine unbootable or cause data loss. Having backups of your data is your responsibility. Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.

There is evidence in your logs of illegal Adobe software.

I need to abide by the Terms of Use that we all agreed to when creating an account here. Specifically, the following bullet.

The posting of links or references to warez or any other type of illegal software is strictly forbidden. By doing so you risk having your user account terminated without warning. We will NOT help anyone we suspect of having obtained their software or services illegally.

I can continue to assist you if you remove any illegal software from your machine and then provide fresh logs. If you decide to do this (which I hope you do), if possible please run FRST from a normal boot and not safe mode as there are things that will hide in safe mode and it will make the cleanup a little more difficult.

Thank you for your understanding.

Hello Brian,

Thank you so kindly for responding.

I have read your instructions and have set my Firefox to directly download to Desktop. I am fine with emptying the Recycling Bin and browsing history. I don't have a working printer at this time, but I do have a tablet that will allow me to access your responses even if my PC is in safety mode.

I should give you an update... There has been a significant improvement, as I am now typing this message from my PC. I was pressed for time because I have a major deadline on Friday, so I went searching for solutions while waiting for someone to respond here and I have run cleaning software before I received your response.

Here's what I've done: I uninstalled all the programs I mentioned above, and more, manually. I was also able to manually remove www-searcher.com. I don't know how I did this because a few hours ago my computer was flooded with pop ups that I was unable to remove and prgrams that I was unable to uninstall. But my friend walked me through it and after running a few scans I was able to manually remove some malicious items.

I have also downloaded and run the following:

AVG 2015

AVG Click Maintenance

AVG PC Tune Up 2015

CC Cleaner

Malwarebytes - also updated it to most recent version; the updated version was able to find items that the outdated version missed

McAfee

Microsoft Security Essentials

Spoybot Search and Destroy - was able to detect items that Malwarebytes missed

Wise Care 365

I also updates my Intel® Driver, which was recommended by AVG Maintenance

I went a bit Rambo, I know, but somehow it worked and the last two Malwarebytes and Spybot scans I ran turned up clean both times. I'm not sure whether I succeeded in cleaning everything completely and permanently though.

Should I send you updated FRST logs?

Thank you,

Izzi.
