Hi guys,I would like to install a BD-ROM drive into my laptop so I can watch blu-rays on it but it has to be able to write/burn dvds aswell.

What do I need to know inorder to find out if it will be the correct fit for my laptop?

My current laptop is a dell latitude e5420.

Any help appreciated.

Hello mrpooh3,

First thing that I suggest you do is to use the Dell system scanner tool to see what upgrades are suggested, see here let us know the results.

The type of drive you are asking about are readily available see here

How can I find a better selection of BD drives that will fit my laptop as I have checked Amazon in the past and there is not much of a selection?

Honest answer is that it will be difficult as not all internal drives will be compatible with your notebook, an example of this here, a very good LG drive on the face of it but if you read the reviews you will see the following;

I purchased this and it would not fit either of the two Toshiba laptops nor my Dell laptop and I was told I had to pay the return shipping even though the description makes it appear it is an universal drive

Choosing a device that clearly states that it is compatible with your notebook is the best option IMO.

Hello mrpooh3,

Thank you for posting the link, brand name computers such as Dell etc can be most particular with the third party hardware that they are compatible with  :thumbsup:
