I recently bought a headset, pretty cheap. It comes along with a mic and sound. However to use the mic you must use a Y audio splitter.

I am using a Macbook Pro so it only has one port, so i bought an 3.5mm audio splitter off of eBay. So it goes from a one jack to Y splitter (2 jacks mic + sound) then back to one jack (3.5mm). However my Macbook will not detect the microphone. D: please help

see if this helps.

  1. Plug the input audio device into the combination audio port using the proper adapter cable.
  2. From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
  3. Choose Sound from the View menu.
  4. Click the Input tab.
  5. Change the "Use audio for:" menu selection from Sound Output to the Sound Input.
  6. The device type should change from "Internal Microphone/Built-in Input" to "Line In/Built-in Input."
