I was researching online virus scanners and decided to check out Kaspersky Online Scanner found here

http://kaspersky-sec...d?ptn=kaspersky

Downloaded the setup.exe file and tried to install/run (unchecked the 'Software Updater' option though).  The install window looks like it completed, but I can't find hide nor hair of the program anywhere on my PC.  So, I downloaded and ran it again, but got a pop up window that said Kaspersky was already installed on my PC.  Searched for it in Add/Remove programs and via the search box in start button, but found nothing.

I am really confused about what might have happened.  Can a program install on a PC and not be found like that?

I suggest you to read this.

Thanks for the link.  I read the whole thing and found that I had not disabled my antivirus program prior to downloading/installing Kaspersky.  Disabled antivirus then tried again.  This time the install went much further (offered free trials) and just when it looked like it was going to complete, the same message appears:

"Your computer already has Kaspersky Security Scan installed".  Again, I've searched for it using every method I know of and I have found nothing.  At this point, it's not so much that I want to run the program, but it's the mystery of where, and if, the program is truly on my PC somewhere.

You have Avast antivirus, super anti spyware, Malwarebytes and ccleaner.

What is the purpose you using ccleaner, Did you use it on daily purpose?

I didn't see that kaspersky is installed on your pc! Did you have any issues in Firefox browser or did you feel any lags in your pc?

I've used CCleaner for years.  In fact, I got the recommendation to use it from somebody on this forum way back when.  Don't use it often, maybe a few times per month.

As for lag, YES, Firefox lags quite a bit now.  Websites used to pop up clean and quickly, now it takes an extra second or two.  I really notice it when I try to scroll down a page.  The page will pause a lot, scrolling is very jerky and when I try to watch videos from my main news sites, they take longer to load and do not run as efficiently.

Not seeing Kaspersky installed on my pc is really weird.  I'm sure if I went to the website and tried to run the installation again, it would tell me the program is already loaded.

Run sfc /scannow command in command prompt -->How to run sfc /scannow

Do a disk clean up and run anti virus in your pc and also i see you have speccy in your pc, can you post the link of your speccy screen shot?

After doing this do a clean booting of windows and try to install the kaspersky program again!

1. OK, so ran sfc /scannow, here's the result: Windows Resource Partition did not find any integrity violations

2. Ran disk clean up

3. Ran Avast anti virus: No Threats Found

4. Did a clean booting of windows (noticed a much faster system afterwards)

5. Tried to install Kaspersky program again.  Same result.  The Kaspersky file saves to my download folder. When I click on the .exe, the install process beings.  I see it transferring/copying files, then it says, "Please Wait", then it just disappears.  Nothing else happens.  The install window vanishes.

6. Here's a link to my Speccy screen shot:

http://speccy.pirifo...kUnDbIcP2CLst8Y

7. Also, after I have done a clean booting of windows, do I need to go back to msconfig and change the settings back to what they were in the General and Services tab?

Thanks!

I see that you have both Avast and windows Defender Enabled.

image.png

Please Enable any one of those. Do not use two anti-virus at the same time. If you want to use another anti-virus then you need to disable Windows Defender.

I don't see any errors on hardware part, I suggest you to Disable both Anti-virus at the moment of installing kaspersky and enable any one of those again.

7. Also, after I have done a clean booting of windows, do I need to go back to msconfig and change the settings back to what they were in the General and Services tab?

Yes change the settings back, before doing clean boot.

Regards

I didn't realize I had two Antivirus programs running at the same time.  Thanks for the heads up.  Turned off Windows Defender and will continue to use Avast.  For the purpose of installing Kaspersky, I turned off Avast as well.  Went through the download and install process, got further than normal (watched as it installed setup files and gave me the option for a free trial), just as it looked like it was going to work, got the same message. Still a mystery. At this point, I'll pass on the Kaspersky, but would like to clean it out of my system if it's really there.  That's the thing, the message says it's already installed, but all my efforts to find it on my pc have produced zilch.

Did you find in start menu?

Go to start--> in search box type "Kaspersky security scan" (without quotes)

:headscratch: Quite confusing!

Ok i suggest you to try the steps given in reply #12 in Safe mode.

If that did not work try to find this-->Uninstaller: C:\Windows\system32\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Online Scanner\kavuninstall.exe

If this also did not work download Removal tool to uninstall Kaspersky Lab products and run it on your pc, and then reboot it, this will completely remove any kaspersky products in your pc, then again go here and download kapersky online scanner and run it.

Quite the mystery for sure :smashcomp:

Tried steps in reply #12 in safe mode and nothing showed up in search

Tried to find Uninstaller: C:\Windows\system32\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Online Scanner\kavuninstall.exe - that was also a dead end

Downloaded and ran the removal tool.  It take a couple of minutes and once finished, said operation complete.

Then went to Kaspersky website using your link, download/installed and ran into same issue

Not that they'd help at this point, but I did take more screen shots of the installation process for your viewing pleasure.
