I trust you had a restful Xmas break.

Annoyingly, I still can't find a pattern for this problem, although twice when it has happened lately, if I close Outlook the remaining programmes seem to operate ok - as they do if I then open Outlook again.

The Chkdsk report for drive C is below.

Nothing wrong with the disk then.

Let's do this:

Download Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit to your desktop from here.

  • Right-Click on the file that was downloaded and choose Run as administrator. Answer Yes if prompted to Allow.
  • Click OK at the installer screen that comes up.
  • The software will be extracted and will open.
  • Click Next at the first screen.
  • The Update Database screen will appear. Click the Update button.
  • Once updated, click the Next button.
  • On the Scan System screen, click the Scan button.
  • Once, the Scan is finished click on the Cleanup button to remove any threats and reboot if prompted to do so.  If no threats are found just close the programme.
  • If threats were found, then after the reboot, re-run the programme to verify no threats remain. If threats are still detected, click the Cleanup button once more.

Whether threats were found or not there will be a folder named mbar on your desktop. Open this folder and you will find in the list that presents with a file named mbar-log-...txt and another named system log.txt. Please open the files one at a time and copy and paste the contents of each back here.

Okay I am not seeing malware as your problem.

Let's remove the tools we have been using. After that, if you wish to pursue the problem try opening a topic in the Win 7 forum. Someone there may have a solution for you. :)

Now

To clear away the tools we have been using download Delfix from here. You will be taken to the download page. Just wait and shortly the download will appear.

Put a check (tick) in the following boxes:

  • Remove disinfection tools
  • Purge System Restore
  • Reset System Settings

    Then click Run

To help protect your computer in the future:

If you do not already have automatic updates set then it is recommended that you do set Windows to check, download and install your updates automatically.

    * Click Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Update
    * Under Windows Update click on Turn automatic updating on or off
    * Check items shown to ensure you receive updates automatically. Click OK.

Be aware of what emails you open and websites you visit.
