Rebuild Hard drive Upgrade

Just bought an old HP zt1230, but it has no hard drive. It starts up but shuts off. Is that due to no hard drive? Or some other reason?

Yes. If there is no hard disk installed with Operating system the computer will not boot. Buy a hard disk and install the OS on it. If you need help in Buying hard disk post in system building forum and if you need anything about installing OS post in operating system forum.
