:welcome:    robert1002b,

Have you tried booting into Safe Mode with Networking by continually tapping the F8 key when you restart the computer.

how can I do a factory reset, I don't have a cd

As you say that the computer is old it most likely will not have a Recovery Partition on the hard drive but it is worth checking, can you tell us the exact model name of number of the Compaq, if no recovery partition is present you will need to purchase a new OS disk.

at the bottom of the screen it says u maybe a victim of software counterfeiting, and it's been fine all these years,

As XP is now not supported by MS by way of them releasing security updates the OS is vulnerable and is being exploited by the bad guys, post an update regarding the safe mode question, depending on the answer you may need to be redirected to the malware removal forums.

robert1002b,

For clarification.....are you indicating that the OS is not licensed?

Is that what you mean by

a victim of software counterfeiting
