On my other computer I had turned off updating automatically about 1 year ago, then yesterday decided to update, after updating it showed the Acer loading screen but then after loading it brang me to a black screen where I could move my cursor, I have looked online a lot and have found no way to fix it, not even safe mode would pop up it only went to the same black screen, only BIOS works.Today when I tried to start it up it went into Preparing for Automatic Repair, soon after went into a black screen. I have no idea what is happening except, my sister says that my baby cousin had actually fell on the laptop, but I dont think his weight could have caused this much problem, or is it the update I have no idea, would someone help me?

Hi :welcome:

Do you have the Windows 8.1 DVD? if not I suggest you download it from Microsoft and burn a DVD or put it on a flash drive.

Make sure you select the same Edition, language and Bit OS (32 or 64 bits) you have now.

Boot the machine using the Windows 8.1 DVD or flash drive select the option to repair and then Advanced Options -> Command Prompt, from there type the command:

chkdsk /R c:

The disk scan can take some time depending on the hard disk size, errors found and speed of the machine...

Oh thank you thank you, I have not tested that, but it seems to be working I just had to wait 1 whole hour I guess patience is a virtue, it's finally loading the windows 8.1 loading screen, thank you very much, but I wont close it yet until I see that it is actually done. After about loading it seems it goes back into a black screen, may be me not being patient for it loaded the windows screen, but then resulted into a black screen, I will wait to see if it works for me trying to be patient. After waiting 20 minutes, it finally said my computer ran into an error, I then proceeded to restart my computer and boot my USB again, once again the window shows up and loading then goes into a black screen, I don't think there is anything wrong with my screen as you can see the Windows Logo.

Hi,

It's not normal the very long waiting time for the system to start!

If you can please generate the following log it can eventually provide some clues about the problem...

Download MiniToolBox and save the file to the Desktop.
Close the browser and run the tool, check the following options:

  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Devices (select Only Problems)
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size
  • List Minidump Files
  • List Restore Points

Click on Go.

Post the resulting log in your next reply.

Sorry I got the wrong impression that you got access to the Desktop.

Boot from the USB and run chkdsk like I advise on post #2.

I loaded the USB but after loading the windows 8.1 screen, it brings to a black screen, I currently don't have access to advanced options to do a chkdsk.

See here for instructions, see if they allow you to run chkdsk from the install DVD:
