Hi All

I volunteer for a Computers for Schools origanzation. We had several of these computers donated to us and after doing a clean installs the CPU runs at 100%.

I am trying to figure out why if possible this computer is running at 100% CPU. Demafucatured some of the other ones that had the same problem. The disk I used to install the OS has been used on other computers and they do not have any problems so I am sure the disk is not infected.

Windows 7 Pro 64bit Pentium Dual-Core E6300 @ 2.8GHz 4GB of RAM

This computer I ran killdisk and wrote zeros the the HD and reinstalled Windows 7. I have install System Internals suite on the computer but I am not the best with it. Looking for a place to start trouble shooting.

Any help will be greatly appriciated.

Doug

Get Process Explorer

http://live.sysinter...com/procexp.exe
Save it to your desktop then run it (Vista or Win7 - right click and Run As Administrator).

View, Select Column, check Verified Signer, OK
Options, Verify Image Signatures

Click twice on the CPU column header  to sort things by CPU usage with the big hitters at the top.

Wait a full minute then:

File, Save As, Save.  Open the file Procexp.txt on your desktop and copy and paste the text to a reply.

If you can't get process explorer to run you can right click on the clock and select Start Task Manager then Processes then click twice on the CPU column Header and tell me what are the top 5 processes and what % of CPU time does each use/

Just to let you know I am using TeamViewer to access computer remotely since the volunteer center is only open 3 days a week. Output shows TeamViewer using a lot of CPU but CPU was running at 100% before it was installed.

Thanks for your help.

Doug

Interrupts    3.46  is much too high.  Should normally be under 1.5.  Usually indicates a bad or poorly written driver.  This is much more important than the low number would seem to indicate.

Right click on Computer and select Manage.  Then Device Manager.  Do you see a bunch of yellow flags?  I'm guessing that you are missing the chipset utility and probably some other drivers.

What make and model is the PC?

I'm surprised it's just one.  Usually a lot more if the chipset is missing.

Can you do a speccy on it?

Get the free version of Speccy:

http://www.filehippo.com/download_speccy (Look in the upper right for the Download
Latest Version button  - Do NOT press the large Start Download button on the upper left!)  Download, Save and Install it.

Close all browsers and open programs before running Speccy.  Run Speccy.  When it finishes (the little icon in the bottom left will stop moving), File, Save as Text File,  (to your desktop) note the name it gives. OK.  Open the file in notepad and delete the line that gives the serial number of your Operating System.  (It will be near the top about 10 lines down.)  Save the file and close notepad  Attach the file to your next post as it is usually too large for the forum (Click on More Reply Options then Choose file, select the file, Open, Attach this File) Uninstall Speccy.

Sometimes running a boot log will show some problem areas:

Follow the procedure on http://www.techrepub...lp-of-msconfig/
When you get to Step 3 Substep 2.  Copy and paste the text from Notepad of C:\windows\ntbtlog.txt into a reply.

(If you get a pop up just click on No Thanks I know everything)

Sorry for the delay.  Was on a trip this weekend.

It looks like your motherboard had Vista drivers on the download page.

https://downloadcent...p-Board-DG965MQ

They should work for win 7.

Sounds like a good idea to try win 7 32bit if it used to run XP and you can't find drivers.

Hi

Finally got back to the computer today. Vista drivers will not install. Hooked up a different hard drive and installed XP Pro, CPU running at 1%. This computer does not like Windows 7.

Thanks for your help
