Hey all,

Put a 840 evo ssd and windows 7 in an older HP notebook, Pavillion entertainment that had vista and all is well except windows updates run forever and when i use the "fix" from microsoft I get error 0x802244402 (2015-09-23-T-11_06_42a) and the date and time part of it may vary.

Runs well, connects every time, no proxy just a regular home connection. Tried using the cable instead of the wifi and same thing.

SFC checked out ok.

Thanks for any advice.

Joe

Hi Joe,

I have some suspicious and to confirm I would like to see a report...

Download MiniToolBox and save the file to the Desktop.
Close the browser and run the tool, check the following options:

  • List last 10 Event Viewer Errors
  • List Installed Programs

Click on Go.

Post the resulting log in your next reply.

Hi,

Try to install the update available on this link: https://support.micr...en-us/kb/982018

See if it helps.

If you open the Device Manager there are any devices with a yellow question mark?

I tried that update earlier and it just sits there "searching for updates on this computer" forever.......and there isn't anything on this drive to bog things down......hmmmm

This is an older computer that belongs to a friend. It seems to be 5 times faster than before with the SSD, amazing.

There are some exclamation points and have no idea what they are for, everything I tried seems to work.

I just had a similar problem with a Vista system. I  ended up using Windows Repair All-In-One (free) from Tweaking.com. It fixed the problem and updates work now.

I just took all the defaults and did each step.

Thanks for that info and will keep it in mind. The machine runs perfect and I dont want to take any chances at the moment, will give microsoft a shot at it.
I just noticed microsoft security essentials hangs when it tries to use the windows update to get the latest virus definitions.
It has to be something simple.

You need to install the Intel Chipset drivers try this https://downloadcent...ets-Zip-Format-

Can you post a screenshot of the Device Manager showing the IDE ATA/ATAPI expanded?

Attached is the screen shot you requested.
The good news is I was able to download 194 updates thru Simplix up to 8 15 2015.
The really bad news is that it corrupted the windows update fix program even worse than before.
Also attached is a screen shot of the new error code which i believe is access denied, and it took forever to complete the attempted repair. However, sfc still passes after I did that.

I might pick up another SSD and attempt to load 7 from scratch again and save this SSD. The machine appears to run flawless aside from the update issue and is at least 4 times faster than the vista with the original HDD.

What is odd is that they did not offer drivers for a win 7 upgrade on this machine like they do on others. I guess they figured win 7 was not going to work properly on it for some reason.

Thanks for the input. I will look into the chipset driver and see if i can get it in there.

I just ordered a samsung 850 evo so I can reload this thing with 7 and get back to square 1 on the updates.

Start fresh sounds like a good plan to me.

After installing Windows I always add the needed drivers first, then the latest Internet Explorer for Windows 7, restart and only then I start install updates.

In the past I could go to the HP site in advance and find out what I would need for drivers, typically, on a win 7 upgrade for whatever HP machine I have here but in the case of this machine I came up with 0.

It is as if they do not think 7 is compatible with it and I wonder how could that be ? It isn't all that old, maybe 2008.

I downloaded HP support assistant and it gave me 0 as well on the drivers. I try to update them in device manager and it always comes back that

I have the latest drivers and I cannot hardly believe that. It runs good tho.

I had the same problem with a similar machine HP dv9500. To install Windows 7 I had to search all over the net for the correct drivers.

Its a machine released with Windows Vista and HP doesn't bother to collect and provide the drivers for windows 7.
