A few days ago, on my 2 TB hard drive running Windows 8.1, I ran into a huge error and now I can't boot windows.  All of my data is fine.  I do not feel like tampering with it do I was wondering if I could transfer the data.  I have an old 150 GB hard drive from my old computer with Windows 7 loaded on it.  I also have a 2 TB external hard drive.  I was wondering if I could take out my corrupted 2 TB hard drive then insert my 150 GB hard drive in to boot from.  After that, I wanted to put my corrupted 2 TB hard drive in as well as my external hard drive so I can recover all of my data.  Would it be possible to boot from my 150 GB hard drive then access the corrupted hard drive afterwards as a storage drive?

Hi,

Using the 150GB HDD from another machine will most likely not work because Windows is tied to the different hardware from the old computer.

In situations like yours we usually suggest to use some Linux boot CD/DVD for example Puppy Linux, to access the HDD and transfer the data to the external HDD.
