Hi GregMiller

Please only run the following instructions - do not do anything else meantime.

Step1 - Run System Update Readiness Tool
  • Download the system update readiness tool from here and save to your desktop.
  • To install the tool, double-click the file
  • In the Windows Update Standalone Installer dialog box, click Yes

    2914999.png
  • When the tool is being installed, it automatically runs. Although it typically takes less than 15 minutes to run, it might take much longer on some computers. Even if the progress bar seems to stop, the scan is still running, so don't click Cancel.

  • When you see Installation complete, click Close.

    2915001.png
  • A log file will be created at %SYSTEMROOT%\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log. %SYSTEMROOT% is the folder in which Windows is installed. Usually this will be C:\Windows
  • Attach the log to your next reply.

I just restarted the unit. The pop-up saying it's not running genuine windows still keeps popping up. The computer still refuses to install updates.

I am having trouble copying such a large text document to this box. The webpage keeps freezing when I do Control + V

I will try opening this in a new window. If everything fails would it be okay to attach the text file. If the policy is that everyone should be able  to view the text file, then couldn't you repost it? Meanwhile I will continue to try to post the results.

Here is what happens. I open Notebook to the file.  I hit Control + A and the entire text is selected. Then I go to this reply box. With the cursor clincked into the reply box, I hit Control + V  and then the web page freezes.

I just noticed there is no way to attach that file on this web page had I wanted to- or I don't see it.

I'll keep trying.

Hi GregMiller

We can try sending the file to a file host site and I can get it that way.
  • Click on SpendSpace to open up the SendSpace webpage
  • Click on Browse.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
  • Select the file and click open in the dialog box
  • Then click Upload
  • Copy the download link and post this in your next reply.

Note: There is a 300MB limit on file size to upload. If the file exceeds this size you can split the file into smaller ones. To do this see this guide. Scroll down the page to How do I split my files?
