after starting my laptop a window stating that Win Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. I click on Dont Send, window goes away but comes back again after 3-5 seconds. I dont seem to be able to open any other programs besides the task manager. My Spyware Doctor won't run and I don't know how to get out of this mess. I have tried rededit but I don't really know what I'm looking for. Since I'm not able to open an explorer I don't how to get hold of some kind of anti-virus/malware/spam/whatever scanner/remover.
What to do?

Hello there, I was finally able to run the recommended programs but I haven't updated my XP yet (SP2). Still seems like there are some issues. My Spyware Doctor found the transponder virus again.

Below is my HijackThis log.

Download the VX2 cleaner for Ad-Aware here. Install that, then open up Ad-Aware and click on the button that says "Add-ons" in the middle left of the window. Select the VX2 cleaner, and click "run tool" in the bottom right corner of the window. Let that run and have it fix what it finds.

then reboot and post a fresh HijackThis log
