Hi,

I recently started to have issues with my PC not starting up as it should. When I turn on the computer the power light is on and I can hear it "working" but it doesn't boot up the OS, the monitor and keyboard do not respond.

The strange thing is that if I leave it in that state (sometimes for up to an hour) it will randomly kick in on its own, and start up as normal (or on a couple of occassions hang on the Advent screen).

Once the PC is running it is fine, no issues at all. If I restart the PC from that point it will restart as normal, no issues. If I turn the PC off though, and leave it off for a significant period of time (overnight) it will not start up properly, and I have to leave it "on" for a long time and wait for it to randomly start up.

I run CCleaner on a regular basis, ran a couple of Malware/Adware programs too, as I had recently picked up that "Safesearch nasty" (I don't think this is the issue). I also tried the Startup Repair, and a couple of System Restores, but none of that has seemed to have worked.

I was going to try a complete Factory Reset on the machine, but thought it best that I came here to at least try to determine if this was a Hardware or Software issue. PC Specs are as follows:

Manufacturer: Advent
Computer Type    ACPI x86-based PC
Operating System    Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
DirectX    DirectX 11.0
Date / Time    2015-10-05 / 10:28

Motherboard
CPU Type    TripleCore AMD Phenom X3 8600, 2300 MHz (11.5 x 200)
Motherboard Name    Foxconn A7GMX-K/S / A7VMX-K/S  (2 PCI, 1 PCI-E x1, 1 PCI-E x16, 2 DDR2 DIMM, Audio, Video, Gigabit LAN)
Motherboard Chipset    AMD 760G/780G/780V/785G/790GX/880G/890GX, AMD K10
System Memory    3328 MB  (DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM)
DIMM1: ASint B1YJ2LB4FNG    2 GB DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM  (5-5-5-18 @ 400 MHz)  (4-4-4-12 @ 266 MHz)  (3-3-3-9 @ 200 MHz)
DIMM2: PNY Electronics    2 GB DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM  (6-5-5-18 @ 400 MHz)  (5-5-5-18 @ 400 MHz)  (4-4-4-12 @ 266 MHz)
BIOS Type    AMI (06/23/09)

Any help or advice would be hugely appreciated.

Chris.

Often caused by bad memory.

Try removing half then test. If okay then replace the removed ram or try reinserting it as sometimes contacts get dirty or corroded and removing and replacing fixes it.

If still problem, swap ram and test again.

Replace ram if you can identify one as bad.

Can also be caused by a power supply going bad.
