cd/dvd not reading

hp laptop put cd/dvd into player will not read it ,computer says drive is there and up to date, have run fixit from Microsoft nothing says all up to date ,have also deleted upper and lower filter in registry , cd will also open with the eject icon on screen.have also deleted cd and re installed, any ideas

The lens on the drive may be dirty or have failed, can I ask how old the HP notebook is and which particular model name or number it is.
