Hello all!

 

This is my second rig after six glorious years of use on the old one. As it stands now though I'm having problems with pcpartpicker saying that the Chassis and the Cooler I've picked out are incompatible, as well as needing advice on the overall build. The specs are as follows:

I've been recommended to use the X61, but it's the same 280mm size as the X60, so the problem would be the same I believe. Any advice or criticisms would be most helpful.

Do you have any suggestions for a different cooler? Before it was recommended I use that one I was going to use a Corsair H100i. Do you think that's a good choice for this build?

 

Also, any other suggestions or ideas?

Socket compatibility.

Intel’s new chips may necessitate a new socket, but they've done right by the enthusiast community by sticking with the same mounting system as their previous mainstream platforms. That means that any cooler that was compatible with LGA 1150, LGA 1155, or LGA 1156 will be compatible with the new LGA 1151.

Re, RAM.  8GB (2x4GB) is more than enough for gaming, 16GB+ if video/photo editing.   If still wanting 16GB, best practice is 2x8GB = 16GB, leave spare slots if wanting further upgrade. 

 

Looks a fantastic build.   I hope you have good display to take full advantage of the performance.

Tips.

Check that your GPU will fit in the case.

Download user manuals for your hardware.

This will be the second rig that I've built so no need for tutorials, and I'll update once it's complete. Is there a specific subforum I should post it on?

 

As for the GPU, it should fit. The card is 11.1" (282mm) long, and the case is 20.55" x 9.09" x 18.27", with a maximum GPU length of 11.61" (295mm). It'll be a tight fit, but nothing impossible.

As for the advice on memory, I can't find any G.Skill replacements that are 2*8gb but also 3400 save for the TridentZ Series, which is $100 more than a similar Ripjaws V set at 3200.

 

On the one hand, the TridentZ is faster, but is it really worth $100 more?

 

And just after posting this I noticed that there is a TridentZ 2*8gb 3200 set as well for the almost same price as the  Ripjaws, as well as another set of Ripjaws that's 3200, but optimized for the Z170 chipset that I'm using in my mobo.

the ASUS ROG MAXIMUS VIII HERO motherboard has a speaker built onto it so i wouldn't worry about the broken link because you won't need one.

sorry think my memory is playing me up because i can't find a confirmation for this, so you may need to buy a speaker if one doesn't come with the case.

they not used for sound output while the pc is in use, which is what your set of speakers are used for.

an internal motherboard speaker is only used by the motherboard so it can beeb at you if there are any problems.
