OK I am not seeing what is causing the problem I would suspect a rootkit however, I cannot say that for sure. At this stage we now have two options open to us...
First reinstall windows 7 if you have the disc...
Second take up MS on their offer of a free upgrade to windows 10 http://www.microsoft...nload/windows10

I think I'll go for the free upgrade. Thank you so much for all your help. My computer may not be back to 100% yet, but the help you've given me has at least allowed me to continue using my comp for work.

Nah I think I'm good to go on that, especially now that I realized the serial for my pre-installed Windows 7 is on the bottom of the laptop. That's all I'll need, right?

That is correct, windows 10 is a lot more secure than the previous versions and very similar to 7
