Not sure if I'm in the right place as I've just upgraded to Windows 10 hoping my problems would be resolved. They weren't and I need help. I constantly receive the error messages stop script and recover webpage, sometimes one after the other. I click, the page returns and it's the same again. With some websites I give up. Everything is just so slow. I use C Cleaner constantly but makes no difference. I have followed a lot of advice except where it's very technical and it makes no difference. I also play Mindjolt Solitaire which after a few games freezes the laptop.

I've tried troubleshooting IE11 no problems. Scannow, some corrupt files, resolved, no change. I'm at my wits end and seriously contemplating a new laptop. I've also disabled add ons except Shock Wave Flash object.

Toshiba Satellite, Win 10 IE11

Would be grateful for any advice.

My first suggestion would be to do a backup of all your personal files, then try a Reset Installation of Win 10 with the "Don't save anything option."  That or simply do a clean installation of Win10 via the Media Creation Tool.

If you do not have failing hardware, and I'm presuming you've already done that sort of diagnostic testing based on your comment about corrupt files [though I may be projecting a bit based solely on that comment], something's clearly wonky with either IE11 or your Win10 installation.

Have you tried downloading and using an alternate browser such as Firefox, Chrome, Opera, or the like to see if you get the same errors when browsing the same pages that are giving those to you now?  That would be one way to try to determine if it's IE11 related as opposed to Win10 installation related.

Also, although it's not likely related to your web browsing issue, have you gone to your laptop manufacturer's website to see if they "certified" it for use with Win10 and/or whether there are updated device drivers for it for Win10.

In any event, I'd definitely at least try a "fresh from scratch" install of Win10, whether by Reset or Media Creation Tool, so that all vestiges of its previous OS are expunged.  After that's done, you still need to check on the manufacturer's website to see if there are new device drivers that should be installed promptly after the Win10 install.

You might want to try using Clean Boot to see if that gives you a clue to what's happening. If not then reset as britechgy suggested.

Tried twice last night but kept losing signal. Always same message......cable broken, adapter problems...........apparently very common but not necessarily the case. Tried to use BT to change wireless signal. Message.........we have detected that you are using an operating system not currently supported by BT desktop help. The supporting systems are IE6 or higher.

So far: Event Viewer........Warnings and errors............DNS CI    and Tcpip.......heavy traffic last night??????

Start........Internet Explorer cannot be displayed........Internal Service Error or Misconfiguration.

Problems began with Win 8.1 which landed uninvited onto my laptop. NOT Win10

Toshiba Satellite........Windows 10........IE11...  64bit............use AOL as browser but NOT software.

Between false messages and experts who keep telling me to tick the debug box in IE or clean out the system..........Aagh!

Lea,

Your level of problem is not something that's likely to be fixed by the piecemeal/scattershot approach you're taking.  You did an operating system upgrade on a system with an already extant problem and that problem has carried itself along.

Your best bet is to do a Reset install or clean install of Windows 10 after having backed up any personal data you may need.  You're throwing good effort after bad and only increasing your own frustration.

Although MS is still supporting Internet Explorer for a time you should really consider using Edge or one of the other web browsers that are still receiving ongoing support.

I think I had my hand smacked. lol. I've never backed up anything in my life so quite nervous at the thought, but will do.

Tried Edge only last night to get into Daily Mail. Still very slow but no recover webpage or stop script. Then tried Alaskan Solitaire. After a few games started playing up, Cards won't move, eventually froze the game but not the laptop, was able to get out. Downloaded Chrome and went through the same process. Mail, no rw or ss  but page jerky. AS on second game froze but again could get out. Usually I can't do that. I right click the AOL icon at the bottom of the screen to close the window and the icon turns orange/red and the game stays put.

Sorry Ztruker...don't understand the question. Lost the signal but laptop fixed itself and then I went to BT.

I will start again with Win 10 and see what happens. Thanks for all your help.

My apologies for the very late reply but to be honest, I gave up and decided to live with the problems as I'm not technically minded. However I decided to try again and followed the instructions for a clean boot. The first time, nothing happened so I assumed it was me. After the third attempt including starting from run instead of search and still nothing happened I concluded it wasn't me. I did notice however that the Use Original Boot Config which I was supposed to check was checked but was quite faint whereas everything else was bold. To add to the problems of recover webpage and stop script and general slowness my AOL e-mail is now being affected. I have to constantly click on for anything to happen and it does at times seem to have a mind of its own. I'm still using CC and a Malware programme and according to a PC cleaner company I thought about subscribing to I have 473 problems although suspect that they are inclined to exaggerate to get you to buy the product!!
