Hey trying to build a pc and have come up against a brick wall, can not get it to power up. Power supply works, it's the correct one for the mother board but the cpu fan wont start up, I've gone over it 6 times. everything is in the correct place and has been tested individually other than the motherboard and the cpu. the motherboard is gigabyte ga-z97x- gaming 3 and the power supply is corsair cx750 the processor is intel i5 1150, the graphics card is zotac nvidea gtx 950. can anyone help.

Please answer every question, did you,

1. install the I/O shield that came in the MB box into the case.

2. Check the standoff on the case MB mounting plate, they must match exactly the pattern and number of screw holes in the MB.   No extra ones.

3. Check that the 24 pin ATX plug (right side of board) and the ATX_12V_2X4 plug, (top left side of board) are seated with the locking tab engaged.

4. The CPU fan is plugged into the CPU 4 pin fan header on the MB, not the CPU OPT.

 

When you power on, does the PSU fan spin up and keep going.?

yes to everything other than the psu fan wont spin

Are you using a power strip?

Does your monitor power on?

yes and the monitor stays blank

Check the wall socket, plug in a table lamp or fan.

If it is OK, use an extension lead from the socket to the PSU and test.

yeah done all that, the wall socket works fine

If you don't get a power on light on the monitor and the PSU fan does not spin. looks like a faulty power strip, or,

If it has an overload button, check it.  

If you can put the computer close to the wall socket, plug the PSU directly into it.

Please remove the add on video card, all Ram, disconnect any storage devices such HDDs or SSDs and the DVD drive if one is present, at this point do not connect your screen to any video port on the MB just connect the PSU to the wall socket, make sure that the PSU switch is in the on position, power up and see if the CPU fan spins, if it doesnt a bare-bones set up outside of the case may need to be done but only after doing another check I will suggest first.
