Has Java ever  been able to run on Windows XP 32 bit pc's?  I noitced that all downloads from File Hippo (even older versions) require 64 bit XP machines.

Yes but only version 7 http://www.oracle.co...ds-1880261.html download the Windows x86 Offline version to avoid junk like the ask toolbar.
