Hi all

I am new to this forum and will appreciate your help  and any information from all.

My question: Having bought a PC About a year ago with software installed. No product key or sticker given by supplier.

Lately, I keep getting the following on start-up "Windows licence expires shortly. Activate before 3 December 2015" "Enter the product key"

It also shows the last four figures of a product key which thus not correspond to the activation keys, that I have in my PC Information.

Also, although it says activate now by entering key, it won't accept any figures.

Any help please and how can I sort this out permanently.

My windows is 8.1

Thanks in advance

:welcome:   codeword,

My question: Having bought a PC About a year ago with software installed. No product key or sticker given by supplier.

From Windows 8 onwards Microsoft no longer provide product key stickers so the above is nothing unusual and depending on the type of computer/the installation itself the product key may be embedded into the computers firmware, this in the case of brand name computers such as Dell and HP etc and large volume producers that use volume licence keys.

Is the computer a custom build or a brand name such as Dell or HP, post a link for it if you have one.

Was the computer upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1 while you have had it, this may explain the different product keys.

Before I suggest anything can you explain what you mean by the following as in what shows the last four figures and from where do you get the PC information from.

It also shows the last four figures of a product key which thus not correspond to the activation keys, that I have in my PC Information.

Make: ASRock H81M

ASRock are known for their MBs and as far as I am aware they do not supply complete OEM built computers, this means that the original OS was installed by the builder (the shop presumably) using one licence key and then upgraded by the shop which has resulted in a second licence key for Windows 8.1

One we are clear on the above we will be better placed to suggest as to how you should proceed, it may be as simple as activating Windows over the phone using the automated Microsoft service.

My apology to all especially phillpower2. Not seen email or forum as I had to enter hospital.

Regarding your query: I got the 'Basic information about my PC' from Control Panel - System & Security - Systems which shows Product key of my PC.

As for the dialog box that was displayed on my desktop ' Window license will expires ' ' Activation required' showed  a different key such as **** 2565.

The problem has been fix but what my helpful tech friend did to solve it kept the secret to himself.

In the mean time thank you  once again  and consider this topic closed.

Please accept my apology for not replying before for reasons beyond my control.

Happy Xmas and Prosperous New Year to all
