I am giving my laptop away, I tried to reset back to factory. I had win10 installed that I upgraded from 8.1.
Can't remember all my steps, but something went wrong when I tried to reset to factory, all drive letters were changed and have no idea if that was causing my issue, So I entered my window 8 cd and it still wouldn't allow me to do anything, something about you can't install windows on a partition..... So I cleaned the drive via command propmpt.
I tried USB method, create bootable media and that sill didn't work.....
next step I did was
MAKE SURE YOU PLUG IN USB BOOTABLE DEVICE
HOLD DOWN F12 WHEN RESTARTING AND ACCESS BIOS MENU (OPTION IS BELOW DRIVE LIST)
1) GO TO BIOS AND MAKE USB 1ST BOOT
2) DISABLE SECURE BOOT
3) GO TO ADVANCE TAB, SELECT SYSTEM
4) CHANGE BOOT ORDER FROM UEFI TO CSM
5) SAVE CHANGES AND EXIT
COMPUTER WILL RESTART AND BOOT WITH USB BOOTABLE DRIVE
But did not work, so I tried again with win8 CD
Alas, cd loaded and I installed win8, did all the updates and upgraded to 8.1 without a hitch.
I reversed the bios changes and get no bootable device found.....So I had to revert the steps back in order to get windows to operate.
So question is, do I leave as is or do I need to change the bios back to default and change something there? In case of future perils...
I am planning on re-installing win10 before I give to the wife....so any advice in advance would be appreciated.
