Hi,

Please confirm the compability of the GeForce GTX 980 to Pearl Greek DG31PR.

If it does not may be you can recomend a suitable graphic module which is suitable for gaming.

My current configuration is:

  1. Mother board = Intel Pearl Greek DG31PR
  2. Display = Samsung S23C650. 1920X1080 pixel clock 148.50Mhz
  3. Graphic card = GeForce 9600GT PCI-E controller.

Thanks

Reich Moshe

:welcome:   reichm,

The card will work with the MB but there are a couple of things that need to be considered;

The GTX 980 is a high end card but unfortunately you will not get the full benefits of its capabilities due to your present hardware being so old.

Your MB is the micro ATX type which are often used in smaller cases and this can be a problem with newer video cards as they can be quite long and take up two slots on the MB, can you tell us  what type of case you have as in small form factor, mid or full tower.

The GTX 980 requires a 500W PSU with a minimum of 42 amps on the +12V rail, can the present PSU achieve this, post the brand and model name or number of your PSU so that we can check it is compatible.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the PSU is junk and should not be used anywhere near any new card, see my canned text below;

Please note that there is one thing that is possibly worse than using a known poor quality brand of PSU and that is using one that is unheard of, for brands of PSU to trust and brands to avoid please refer to the two attached links here and here

PSU database here

Before purchasing a new PSU it is advisable that you measure the dimensions of the present PSU and ensure that the new PSU has the correct power connections for the MB, HDDs, optical drives, FDDs or add on cards such as a video card if one is fitted.

The present PSU is of such poor quality that it does not even have one let alone the two supplemental 6 pin PCI-E connectors that a GTX 980 requires, see PSU product description here, you will also note the absence of any claimed amp ratings :alarm:

From your picture we cannot see how much room is available inside your case, you need to measure it yourself and then let us know, you do have a case blank next to the present card so a dual card of some description will fit if you remove the blank first.

He's trying to use a classic intel motherboard to put a 980 in it? Man you are going to blow up a lovely card there.
