Hello

I have been tasked with trying to set up some somewhat complex tracking for a wordpress blog, and wondered what might be the best way to go about it.

What I have been asked to do is first off, collect email addresses of the blog visitors, so I was thinking of adding a customisable "subscriber" pop-up plugin which knows when someone is returning so it doesn't pop up everytime. It also needs to be one which popsup and can't be exited out, so the visitor cannot carry on to the blog until they have subscribed. So the first question is - is there a plugin that can be used with wordpress which will achieve this?

Now for the second part. I'd then like to be able to track these visitors (now subscribers) individually, including which links each individual visitor is clicking on. So I assume, at this point, each visitor or subscribers will be given a unique user/tracking ID. Is there then a way to link each user's unique ID  to their email address? So the tracking platform/interface will show that (for example), john.smith@....... and jane.smith@........ clicked on www.bloglink.co.uk.

I have been looking at Google Analytics and it appears you can develop such cookies, where individual users can be tracked, I just then need a way to link this user ID to their email address which they provided at the begining.

Any help welcome (even if it is just answering part of my problem).

Thanks in advance,

Lucy

Hi Lucy, and welcome to our forum

:welcome:

I see that, so far, no one has replied to your topic.

This may be because of the forum's "Terms of Use" an extract, is shown below.

  1. Geeks to Go is a family friendly site, accessible to anyone 13 years of age and older. Please keep all content appropriate.
  2. We offer free computer help and tech support for home and personal use. We are not here to support others that work for profit, or to support/replace your company's IT department.

It might be better to ask the person who has "tasked you to set up complex tracking..."  to consult their IT department or failing that, employ independent consultants/contractors to deal with the issues. They will need to be mindful, not only of the technical difficulties, but also of the legal constraints and requirements of such tracking in certain jurisdictions and geographical locations around the world.

I guess this may not be what you wanted to hear, but it's as far as I feel able to go, for the present.

Regards

paws.
