That shouldn't have done anything to the BIOS. Leave the CD connection loose. You can remove the 3.3 volt lithium battery for 20 seconds and then put it back. That should restore the BIOS.

I still think it has to be a BIOS option but if you can't find one then your only option would be to get a SATA drive.
Can you see a part number on the MOBO? The BIOS is from Intel so perhaps the board is too. At least they are still in business.

You say you need the serial number of the motherboard? Would it be on a corner or something?

Part number rather than serial number.
