I can usually custom design ranks and load the images.... but i found some that are animated and in gif format. For some reason they won't load in invisionfree's ACP. Is this because only a certain file type can be used? or is it just a bug in the system?

I haven't used invisionfree for a long time, but I am familiar with Invision. I'm guessing GIF hasn't been added as MIME type in the ACP. Given as invisonfree is pretty locked down, not sure you'll be able to add it. You could use third-party image hosting, like imgur.com

all my images for the website are linked from photobucket.com ... and unfortunately they don't allow rank images to be linked via url. so i guess i can have gif images on the site, but only stationary gifs for the ranks. which sucked because the ones i found would have worked perfect.
